About Us

El Segundo Eagles Softball

El Segundo Eagles Softball provides quality softball training and instruction for girls while assisting in the social and mental development of the players withing a supportive and competitive environment. We teach girls the lessons of life through the sport of softball.

The overall goal for our players is to have fun playing a sport with their friends and developing a sense of selflessness, grit, confidence, respect for the game, teammates, and opponents, as well as creating memories that will last a lifetime.

It takes a village to achieve success…

We focus on the entire village (players, coaches, parents, family and fans) to achieve success.

We use the philosophy from the book “The Village Chief” written by Steve Cleland. The Village Chief book gives a detailed blueprint for creating an environment for success where kids, parents and coaches thrive.

Success is about more than winning a game or a championship; it’s about maximizing the potential of every player, parent and coach on your team.

Team Philosophy

We all have one common goal – to give the kids an amazing softball experience.

We must act as one team with that common goal in mind at all times.

The four guiding pillars of our teams:

100% - Best version of Themselves

TEAMWORK – Team first, Look & act as a Team

TEAMWORK – Team first, Look & act as a Team

Constant IMPROVEMENT & LEARNING

It is okay to make a mistake…As long as you are going for it! Your teammates will back you up and support you. Encourage the players to “go for it” and applaud them when they do…no matter the result.

Coaching Goals

  • Keep it positive and support the girls in great moments and challenging moments.
  • Encourage/challenge the girls to get out of their comfort zone.
  • Create the environment where players make more decisions on the field.
  • Encourage and foster player leadership.

We want the players to play loose, play hard and have fun so our goal is to create the best environment for this to happen.

As parents, it is critical to embrace and support this approach in the stands, in the car and at home.

“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence wins championships.”

- Michael Jordan -

Team Goals

Each team will develop a long-term “Big Hairy Audacious Goal” or “BHAG”.

Each team is different so BHAG’s for teams will likely be different.

Each team will also develop shorter term team goals, development goals and individual goals.

A critical component to accomplishing our goals is to KEEP THE GIRLS TOGETHER.

The intention is that all families will commit to staying together for an extended period (years).

Our goal is to keep the core together and grow together to create a very strong TEAM.

This creates a competitive advantage.

Winning & Losing

Winning is not a part of our 4 pillars.

We care a lot about effort and process so this is where we focus.

We generally do not care about the wins/losses but we intend to try to compete each time we hit the field.

Parent Expectations

Reconcile the WHY!

We believe that it is very important for parents to reconcile between your reasons for having your daughter play and their reasons of why they want to play.

Are they the same?

Overall Experience Management

1. Create a positive experience

Set expectations, support and encourage players to talk with the coaches directly

2. Coaching – Let us do it!

  • NO coaching from the bleachers/sidelines during games.
  • If you don’t like some of the things we are teaching or telling your kid, please let us know. I think it is disrespectful to your coaches and it will confuse your kid and slow their softball development.
  • As much as possible, nobody coaches their own kid.

3. Focus on the TEAM, not just one player.

4. Cheering – keep it positive

5. Umpires – let us deal with them, no matter how bad the call is.

6. Feedback – is encouraged, 24-hour rule.

We are parents too.

We know there will be moments that will be tough for your daughter (playing time, did not play well, did not put in 100%, did everything right and things did not go their way).

We expect parents to use those as teaching moments.
